The Under 16 Girls Ontario Cup final matched the Markham Lightning against the Waterloo Phoenix. The game started out strongly, with both teams pushing for a goal. Both teams were playing quite aggressively, with good communication and strong goaltending. Waterloo came out of the gates guns-a-blazing, scoring a goal in the 1st minute of play. In the second half, Markham took a page out of Waterloo's book when Mackenzie Naylor scored in the first minute. Markham defender Hanna Park continued her lights out defence, denying Waterloo the opportunity to move ahead. This fast paced, exciting game would not be decided in regulation time and would need to be determined in kicks. Markham wins 4 - 2 on kicks with goals by Savannah Meyer-Clement, Amanda Lund, Alison Ferguson and Brooke Blog. Goalkeepers Stephanie Nickou and Christina Abbatangelo are to be commended for excellend Goalkeeping!
