The Competitive (or Rep) program is for players with outstanding soccer skills who represent the Markham Soccer Club in various competitive leagues. Players include both boys and girls born between 1991 and 2000 inclusive. We have many teams in the U8 to U18 age range for boys and U8 to U18 for girls.

The commitment

Competitive teams generally practice twice per week. The amount of travel depends partly on the age group and the level of the team. Competitive teams usually enter a few weekend tournaments. Most of them operate year round and play in indoor as well as outdoor leagues.

Where do they play?

The U8 to U11 teams play in the York Region Youth Competitive Soccer League.

Our boys competitive teams from U12 and up play in the Central Soccer League. They play teams from York Region, Toronto, Durham Region and occasionally from Huronia.

Our girls competitive teams from U12 and up play in the Central Girls Soccer League. They play teams from York Region, Toronto, Durham Region and occasionally from Huronia.

The goal for all of our competitive teams is continuous improvement and advancement, and for teams from U14 and up, to gain promotion to the OYSL (Ontario Youth Soccer League), the highest level of competition in Ontario.

In 2009 we had one Boys Team in the OYSL and in 2010 we expect to have two. In addition, our U21 Women`s team played in the Ontario Women`s Soccer League (OWSL) in 2009.

The cost

The basic registration fee plus a competitive player fee. The extra fee is necessary because of the higher cost of registration, uniforms, fields and referees for competitive teams.

Player selection

Competitive team tryouts are held in the spring and fall. These are advertised in the Economist and Sun and on this website. To obtain a better understanding of details for a given team, you can contact the team manager. Please call the club to obtain the contact information. The spring tryouts are usually held from February to April at Mount Joy.
