Our U18 Boys All-Stars managed to grab their second tournament win at the Lake Simcoe All-Star Tournament on July 25 - 26, 2009.

This was another great effort by all to set up another decisive win in the finals for these All Stars. All this was completed in the worst possible weather conditions, including the occasional torrential downpour.  The parents were all, at times, water-logged watching our players.

Game 1 against Port Hope was an easy 5-0 victory on Saturday afternoon. The Saturday evening game was cancelled due to poor field conditions.

Game 2 was against our rivals, Mississauga. They appeared to be ready for us this time, and this game ended up in a scoreless draw, 0-0.

Game 3 was against Erin Mills. It got a little tense when they scored on a penalty kick to put them ahead 1-0.  We managed to hang it there and score before time ran out to tie them 1-1.

Game 4 was against Barrie. This was a hard-fought battle through the worst rainfall I have seen to date, but the teams played on. We managed to score quickly and followed it with a second, to put us up 2-0. They managed to score to bring it to 2-1. As hard luck would have it, they were awarded a penalty kick late in the game. If they scored here, it could potentially create a three-way tie to determine who advanced to the finals. It was not looking good for us.  Then, displaying amazing form, goalkeeper Juliano dove in the right direction and saved the penalty kick from going in. The game ended up 2-1 in our favour.

After playing 3 tough games in adverse conditions on Sunday, we now had to prepare to play our rivals in our fourth game of the day. Our players were very tired, compared to the Mississauga players, who were relatively well rested. To our advantage, Mississauga was a little light in their roster, as a few players could not stay for the 6 p.m. game. We easily handled them and recorded a 5-0 victory. Honours go to Chris Blanco for getting his first three goals of the tournament in this game. The first goal was a deflection off his back from a bullet released by Markus Miller.

Congratulations on your second tourney win and outscoring your opponents 13-2: Justin Barreto, Jordan Bedi, Christopher Blanco, Matthew Coates, Anthony Karas, Markus Miller, Adam Murphy, Ben Murphy, Scott Murphy, Mark Palomo, Michael Reid, Juliano Romagnuolo, Richard Ruffolo, David Slaman, Aaron Styba, Kevin Veneziano, with coach John Slaman and Manager Elaine Veneziano.
