On Saturday, September 26, the Markham U12 Boys All-Stars played in the Whitby All-Star Tournament, their last tournament of the season. The Hornets won their first two games in round robin play and ended up first in their division. They advanced to the final and, in a battle against Peterborough, were just edged out on second round, sudden-death penalty kicks. Markham lost 2-1.

The team started out with 15 players on the roster, but somehow ended up with no subs by the end of the final game due to absent or injured players. The boys played with heart, gave a great effort, and were gracious in their defeat.

In summary, the team entered five tournaments this season – Burlington, Lake Simcoe, Oshawa, Barrie, and Whitby. They got to a semi-final once, were runner-up finalists twice and won a championship in Oshawa. They played 19 games in total for the five tournaments and had 13 wins, 1 tie, and 5 losses overall. This has been the team’s most successful season to date since it was started two years ago as a U10 Boys All-Star Team.

I am extremely proud of all my players and coaching staff. We have all come a long way together.
