Markham U11 Boys Shine Again

This team continues being successful! The Markham Hornets Boys U11 All Star team has won yet another trophy. They finished as Finalists in Unionville’s 2009 All Star/Select Tournament on August 22nd and 23rd.
After finishing in second place in the round robin games on the Saturday they advanced to the semi-finals against a very strong team from Erin Mills. With Markham leading in the second half on a goal by Michael Rowe, Erin Mills were awarded a late penalty shot and tied the game with just over a minute remaining to send the game into penalty kicks. Penalty kick goals by Nicky Turco, Michael Rowe, David Matheson, and Chris Urquhart, and a brilliant save by keeper Alex Barovier led the Hornets to victory and a chance to play in the finals against the Wexford Titans. The Hornets battled hard in the final but were defeated by a very talented Wexford team whose coach said playing Markham was their toughest game of the tournament. Markham didn’t score in the final but the Wexford team awarded the Markham MVP of the game award to David Matheson.

The Markham Hornets defended their championship trophy from last year in the Unionville tournament very well and served their community proud.

A few weeks earlier they were also the finalists in the Lake Simcoe All Star tournament and brought home another trophy. They scored 12 goals in the tournament and only let in 1 as they lost the final game 1-0 to Darlington. This was their first tournament of the year. With two All Star tournaments last year and two All Star tournaments this year they have one championship trophy and three finalist trophy’s in their 4 All Star tournaments! Quite an accomplishment!! Well done boys!
