Markham Hornets U7 Girls, Finalist at the Unionville Select Tournament

The Markham Hornets U7 Girls made their season debut in the Unionville All Star Tournament on the week-end of August 22, 2009. Following are the results of their games:
In the first game the girls were defeated by the host team USMC All Star’s – Score 2 – 1, the girls were a little intimated as this was their first game that they ever played together as a team. The only Markham goal scored by Tina Tsarvenkov.

The second game the girls won by forfeit as the North Toronto White pulled out of the tournament.
In our last round robin game the girls came on real strong and displayed an exuberant amount of confidence by beating the Ajax Wildcats 1 – nil, Markham goal scored by Christina Thibodeau.

Sunday morning’s semi final game was a tough one against North Toronto Green who played a very physical style of game, but our girls managed to hold their own right to the bitter end with a game that resulted in a 1- 1 tie. Markham goal scored by Keona Hurley-Duncan. The game went into penalty kicks and the girls prevailed with the extra penalty kick goal scored by Jamie Donaldson.

Our final game was against Ajax, where our girls were defeated by Ajax the team we beat the day before, Markham’s only goal in this game was by Jamie Donaldson.
This was the first tournament/games that these girls played together as a team. They played extremely well for a new team. All the girls played really hard and deserve to be commended for their outstanding efforts.

Our goal keeper Claire Wallace won tournament MVP for her outstanding performance in goal.

Also contributing to the teams efforts were: Jessica Turco, Nicole Yantsis, Serena Haley, Michela Visconti, Paulina Leventis, Christina Schirripa, Elizabeth Van Praagh, Claire Wallace, Bianca Vulpi and Avery Selby.
The team was coached by Caroline Pope and John Tsarvenkov.
