The MSC is looking for a person to oversee the technical support function for House League Divisions from U3 - U18 and for All-Star teams. The position requires a strong mix of technical, organizational and management skills. The primary objective is to support the development of House League and All-Star coaches. This includes the provision of some training sessions for players but the coaches are the main focal point. This person will manage a number of Technical Mentors who will be assigned to support specific Divisions.
This is a paid part-time, seasonal position. The work will be required from April until September. Candidates are expected to have appropriate technical credentials. Experience in related roles, including experience as a House League coach or in supporting / training House League coaches would be beneficial.

Club Objectives
The Club provides technical support for the House League with the following objectives in mind:
To give every player and every coach the opportunity to reach his/her full potential in playing or coaching soccer. For House League players and coaches, this has two specific aims in mind:
To increase their enjoyment of the game by giving them a stronger felling of competence and individual success;
To encourage those who have potential to move to higher levels in soccer. This includes recreational coaches who intend to stay with the recreational program but are prepared to take coaching courses, as well as, coaches and players who have the ability to move into competitive soccer.
To increase the overall level of soccer played within and on behalf of the Club.
To identify coaches and players in the younger age groups who have the potential to move into competitive soccer and to continue to do this as new player and coaches join the Club and existing players and coaches develop.
Overview of the Position
The Technical Director - Recreational Programs brings a strong mix of technical, organizational and management skills to the job of developing the very large number of recreational players within the Club.
The House League Technical Director will oversee the technical needs of the House League from U3 to U18.
He/she will also oversee the technical needs of the All-Star divisions
He / she will manage a staff of 5 Technical Mentors (primarily in the summer period)
He / she will report to, and be supported by, the Head Coach
He / she will strongly support the Club’s development-oriented direction and approach; and, communicate this enthusiastically and effectively to the House League coaches and players.
Position Requirements:
For the Club:
To be a recognized technical leader for the Recreational Program providing an innovative and leading edge program that works successfully within the resources that are available to the Club
To provide leadership, planning, development and overall management of the selected Technical Mentors.
To support and advise the Head Coach in the organization and delivery of technical programs for the Recreational divisions.
To educate and support House League and All-Star coaches by providing them with training and education programs, materials and easily accessible resource people.
To increase the skill level of players, their enjoyment of the game and the overall success of the House League and All-Star teams by providing them with a higher standard of coaching as well as clinics and other programs that will provide additional advanced training.
Key Duties:
To develop and manage annual youth recreational program development plans within guidelines provided by the Club
To provide input to; and, to strongly promote the Club’s plans, direction and philosophy
To work closely with the Head Coach and the Director(s) of Recreational Divisions to recruit, develop, assess and support competitive team staff and to support and guide them in the development of individual team plans
To address and recommend solutions for technical issues
To work in conjunction with the Directors of the Recreational Divisions (where appropriate) to address and resolve technical issues with teams and coaches.
To lead, manage, motivate, develop and deploy the House League Technical Mentors.
To mentor and act as a resource for all youth recreational coaches within the club
To organize, oversee and, in many cases deliver, coaching clinics for the recreational coaches
To organize skill development clinics and camps for recreational players within the club
To assess coaches and to provide feedback and advice to the coaches themselves, and to the Club.
To provide / maintain resource materials for coaches.
Reporting
The Technical Director – Recreational Programs will report to the Head Coach.
He / she will have management responsibility for the members of the House League Technical Team (made up of Technical Mentors).
He / she will provide input and recommendations to the Head Coach and Directors of theRecreational Divisions for the overall plans for the House League Technical Program, deployment and use of the Technical Team, assessment of Technical Mentors, significant changes and so forth.
Support and Collaboration
The Technical Director – Recreational Programs is part of the Club’s Technical Team and he / she will contribute to the development of overall technical direction and plans for the Club.
He/she is expected to work effectively with other Technical Directors on identifying, mentoring and managing coaches and players who have the potential to move into the Competitive Division.
He/she will be supported by the Head Coach who will provide the overall direction and approval for programs being delivered for all of the Club’s Divisions. He/she should expect an active interest and involvement from the Head Coach in reviewing and providing feedback on plans, proposals and results from the incumbent.
Measures of Success
Recreational Technical programs are defined and communicated in a timely manner.
The incumbent provides a positive and enthusiastic message to his own staff and to the Recreational Program coaches and players concerning the Club’s development orientation and specific programs. Evidenced by positive feedback to the Head Coach and others from the Technical Mentors and coaches within the Recreational Division.
Keeps the Head Coach appropriately informed of plans, results and any significant issues. Evidenced by confidence by the Head Coach in what is being planned and executed based on a good knowledge of those plans.
Develops a strong supportive relationship with the Directors of the Recreational Divisions (his / her prime customers). Has effective two-way communication with them. Evidenced by positive feedback to the Head Coach and others with respect to the relationship and the work being planned and executed by the Technical Staff.
Provides a meaningful contribution to the Identification of players and coaches with potential to move into the competitive programs. Successfully provides some personal attention and mentoring for selected recreational coaches who need some encouragement to start down that path.
Technical Mentors develop their coaching / mentoring skills and provide effective support to the Recreational Divisions. Technical Mentors are encouraged to develop their expertise through formal courses and other learning opportunities. The incumbent provides formal assessment and mentoring for the Technical Mentors to assist them with their development. Longer-term, some of the Technical Mentors would ideally become Technical Directors within the Club.
